Off the Beaten Path - Korean Countryside Bike Trip Ideas
The Han River trail is great. The Seoul to Busan trail is amazing. The Four Rivers Trail is breathtaking. So, what do you do when you've done all of those? Maybe you're just looking for a nice day trip outside of Seoul. There's a bunch of country trails that are worth checking out. Here is a list that I am currently using to plan future countryside trips:
- This guy isn't blogging anymore, but he left a wealth of countryside paths during his travels for others to follow. Great photos, good details, and lots of inspiring ideas for those looking for something more off the beaten path like Goeje (거제), Tongyeong (통영), and Jirisan National Park (지리산국립공원).
- Not proper countryside bike paths but rather a great list of those rail-car bike paths that have a pedal-car attached to old rails. Kudos to another Texan in Korea.
- These people seem nice. Glad to see that they have left some good advice for a few casual Seoul rides as well as some day trips to the country side, like Yangpyeong (양평) to Andong (안동), Ganghwa Island (강화도), and Yangsuri (양수리) to Yeoju (여주).
- Government-maintained and all kinds of PR-friendly fonts, this site actually has some decent country trail advice, like Gyeongpo Lake in Gangneung (강릉 경포해변), Sinan Jeung Island (신안 증도), and of course the Paju DMZ trail (파주). They also have a Top 20 Recommended Trails that are well worth checking out. There's also an official PDF that details some great sightseeing spots for those that want to take their time.
- A single page with loads of long distance country paths on the East coast. I should make a bucket list.
- Korean Rooftop has some family friendly tips as well as great camping advice for heading out to Chuncheon (춘천) and Jeonju (전주).
- Official tourist ebooks featuring three of the major rivers and some points of interest along the way. Han River (North Region), Nakdong River (Southeast Region), and the Geum & Yeongsang Rivers. (Southwest Region)
